The Rural Telecommunications Congress mission is to improve the position of rural areas in regards to advanced communications services and technologies. The challenge and opportunity is to connect people--across sectors, as well as across distance--to preserve rural life and promote rural prosperity.

RTC membership is FREE for 2009!

We had to cancel our 2009 conference due to economic conditions and so many folks totally absorbed in their BIP/BTOP grants. Therefore the RTC directors have decided to waive RTC membership fees for 2009. RTC membership will give you discounts on upcoming RTC webinars, at the 2010 Broadband Properties Summit, and RTC 2010.

The RTC will host a one-day forum at the Broadband Properties Summit to develop actionable solutions and share practical knowledge about how to develop and use broadband for rural prosperity.

Rural areas present unique opportunities and challenges for broadband because of distance. Broadband has unique value because it can deliver essential services such as education and healthcare to rural citizens cost effectively. It allows rural citizens to literally plug into the global economy. There are financial and technical challenges to connecting far flung rural citizens, but these challenges can be overcome where there is human and organizational capacity. Without capabilities to build and run networks, to educate and support users, to inform decision-makers, and to redesign business processes around broadband applications the financial and technical challenges are overwhelming. The RTC session at the Broadband Properties Summit will consist of collaborative problem-solving focused in these critical issues.

The 2010 Broadband Properties Summit, at the Intercontinental Hotel – Dallas, in Addison, Texas (20 min. from either airport), runs from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 26, 27, and 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 28. Complete information on the Summit is available at www.bbpmag.com.
